HIVE TO HOME

Every jar has a journey.

From some of New Zealand's most remote manuka forests to your kitchen table, every jar of Rare New Zealand honey follows a journey shaped by nature, guided by experience and protected by science.

For only a few weeks each year, healthy bees collect nectar from native manuka flowers before our team carefully harvests, independently tests and prepares every batch for homes around the world.

Because exceptional honey doesn't happen by chance.

It happens every step of the way.

Born from New Zealand's native mānuka.

01 - THE SOURCE

Manuka honey is unlike any other honey in the world because it begins with one extraordinary native plant.

For just a few weeks each year, the mānuka tree flowers across some of New Zealand's most remote and untouched landscapes. During this brief season, honeybees collect its nectar to create a rich, complex honey found nowhere else on earth.

Everything that follows begins here.

Before any jar can be labelled as New Zealand Manuka honey, it must meet the scientific definition established by New Zealand's Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).

At Rare New Zealand, we go even further. Every batch is independently tested and UMF-certified, ensuring the honey inside every jar is authentic, traceable and true to its certified grade.

Because exceptional honey deserves exceptional standards.

Extraordinary honey begins in extraordinary places.

02 - THE LAND

Not every manuka forest is the same.

The environment surrounding the manuka tree plays an important role in the quality and character of the honey it produces. That's why we carefully select remote locations where native manuka grows naturally across New Zealand's rugged landscapes.

Far from intensive agriculture and surrounded by untouched bush, these places allow our bees to forage exactly as nature intended.

Many of our apiaries are located in areas that can only be reached by helicopter.

It's not the easiest way to keep bees, but exceptional places rarely are.

By working in some of New Zealand's most isolated manuka forests, we're able to harvest honey from landscapes that remain remarkably pure, preserving the integrity of every jar from the very beginning.

Healthy bees. Exceptional honey.

03 - THE HIVES

Beekeeping is a year-round commitment.

Long before the first manuka flowers bloom, our team is preparing hives, monitoring colony health and working with the changing seasons to give our bees the best possible conditions to thrive.

When healthy bees forage across healthy manuka forests, they create something truly extraordinary.

Everything we do is about supporting that natural process - from hive placement and seasonal management through to harvest.

Because exceptional honey begins with healthy bees.

At the heart of every jar is a thriving bee colony.

Throughout the season, our experienced beekeepers carefully monitor each hive, ensuring our bees remain healthy, strong and ready for the brief manuka flowering period. Every inspection, every decision and every journey into the backcountry is guided by one simple principle - healthy bees produce exceptional honey.

Our role isn't to control nature.

It's to work alongside it.

Collected with care.

04 - THE HARVEST

When the manuka flowering season comes to an end, the honey is ready to be harvested.

Our beekeepers carefully remove each honey-filled frame from the hive before transporting it from some of New Zealand's most remote landscapes. Every harvest is timed to work with the natural rhythm of the bees, ensuring the remarkable qualities they've created are preserved from the very beginning.

It's a process that requires patience, experience and respect for the environment we work in.

For many of our apiaries, the journey begins with a helicopter flight into the backcountry.

Once harvested, the honey is carefully transported to our production facility, where it is extracted using modern methods designed to preserve its natural integrity.

Every batch remains fully traceable from hive to jar, allowing us to maintain complete transparency throughout the journey.

No shortcuts. No unnecessary processing. Just exceptional New Zealand Manuka honey, exactly as nature intended. Because great honey deserves a careful harvest.

UMF-Certified

05 - THE PROOF

Before any jar of Rare New Zealand Manuka honey reaches your home, every batch is independently tested to verify its authenticity, purity and quality.

These rigorous tests confirm the naturally occurring compounds unique to genuine New Zealand Manuka honey and ensure every UMF grade accurately reflects what's inside the jar.

It's our commitment to complete transparency and uncompromising quality.

Science doesn't make our honey exceptional. Nature does.

Independent testing simply proves what our bees have already created, giving you confidence that every jar is genuine, fully traceable and certified to meet the highest standards.

Because when it comes to Manuka honey, trust should always be earned.

Proof you can trust. Every single jar.

Every journey ends with you

06 - YOUR HOME

The final step in every journey isn't our production facility.

It's your home.

Whether it's enjoyed by the spoonful, stirred into your morning tea, drizzled over breakfast or shared with family and friends, every jar carries with it the story of where it began.

From the native manuka flower to the hands of our beekeepers, every step has been guided by the same commitment to quality, authenticity and respect for nature.
