OUR STORY
Michael, Thomas and Luke
With a strong love for bees and beekeeping, we set out with big plans and a shared vision to create the world’s best honey. Naturally single origin mono floral Manuka honey is considered by many to be the finest honey, so to create the best Manuka honey possible we had to get out and find the highest concentration of Manuka trees.
After many years spent searching by helicopter far and wide, for Aotearoa’s Manuka resources we knew we had found a very rare place. In a mountainous alpine area located on the edge of the Central Plateau we found the crown jewel, a remote area with 1000’s of hectares of pure Manuka for as far as the eye can see.
Where does your honey come from?
Our Manuka Honey comes from the precarious banks of the Rangitikei River - found on the edge of a volcanic plateau on New Zealand's Central North Island.
With an abundance of Leptospermum Scoparium “Manuka Trees’’ and no other nectar sources around to make contamination and dilution of the manuka nectar near impossible. This combination along with the high altitude, weather and volcanic soil set the stage for creating this Rare Alpine Harvest. Truly a natural masterpiece.
Because of the abundance of Manuka and absence of any other nectar sources, we were confident that our bees would collect only pure Manuka nectar, this was both tremendously exciting for the purity of honey our bees would be able to produce, and challenging in the sense that there were no other floral sources around for the bees to forage before and after the Manuka bloom.
How did we help our bees make this monofloral honey?
To overcome this challenge we planned our beekeeping strategy carefully and looked after our hives in the sunny Hawke's Bay where they could be nurtured and target other floral sources when the Manuka wasn’t flowering. When the time came and the Manuka bloomed the hives were cleared of any surplus honey, fresh boxes of empty wax cells were put on.
We helicoptered them far into the forest to take them straight to bee paradise where they were able to collect this rare Manuka nectar. As soon as the Manuka finished flowering the hives were flown out and this Rare New Zealand Manuka Honey had its first harvest from parts of this virgin land.
We could go on and on about how it tastes but really this Rare New Zealand mono floral Manuka honey has a uniqueness that has to be experienced. It will rock your taste buds!
